PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Studyproject: Create a design for thebarracks site in Ede
within four weeks, based on the theme: “city of the future”.
The design has to be based on a clear vision on the future, fit
in with the project area and the surrounding environment, and
include 800 new homes with a parking standard of 1.5.

CONCEPT
One of the two old barracks in the project area houses the
World Food Centre. The WFC encourages people to choose
healthier and more sustainable food. On one of the buildings,
they wrote: ‘How will we feed 10 billion people in 2050?’ This
question formed the basis for this design. The “Edible City”
brings together living and food production by transforming
the space between the houses, which is not normally used for
food production, into a sustainable food forest. This design
also brings nature closer to people, with all the benefits that
entails.
